Short Side Publishing LLC is an upstart that was created in a federal prison cell two years ago after the author turned down a deal with a well-known publisher wishing to rip him off. Here at Short Side Publishing, we don’t deal with the fake. Our mission is to publish good works of art from all walks of life. We reject the notion that there is one criteria for good writing. Pastor Wright may have made an ass out of himself, but he was right. Black people have a different voice in their head when it comes to learning and leisure.
America is coming into a transitional phase. Racism is still on the prowl, but the works of black folk have wiggled its way through the mire of racism. Our culture (black) is a very unique one. We were stolen from our home lands, stripped of our righteous minds, and forced to re-emerge as something other than ourselves; something we can proud of; something that rejects the shame of racism. It’s ignorance and knowledge strangely mixed. It’s African, Native-American, and oppression. There is no need to feel shame because we don’t all enjoy Hemingway (I thought he was wack) or Shakespeare (whom I enjoy.) It’s no wonder why Langston Hughes makes more sense to us than James Stevens, no disrespect to White poets.
Short Side Publishing LLC will be dealing in the arts whether it’s painting, poetry, or whatever else floats our boats. But, mostly books that relate the experiences of the voiceless.
